I've been a race fan for as long as I can remember. My earliest racing memories involve my parents and me sitting in our family room watching NASCAR races on Sunday afternoons in the early 2000’s. I attended my first race with my Dad in November 2003 at North Carolina Speedway, Rockingham. From that day on I was hooked. I could not get enough of being at the racetrack. My parents and I have spent the years since making memories as we made our way to Daytona, Darlington, Talladega, Atlanta, Charlotte and many local short tracks. As I got older I realized what I enjoyed the most when I was at the track; to tell the stories of the drivers and teams, with my camera.
In the summer of 2014 I decided I wanted to make something of my hobby. That is when Matthew Bishop Photos began. I started covering Southern Super Series races with Race22.com. It was a breakthrough moment and I was able to have the access to take photos I had dreamed about since I was a little boy. In November 2014 I was able to cover the AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. A dream come true. You might recognize the two photos run by the Associated Press of the fight between Gordon and Kieslowski following the race. In my first race I was picked up by the A.P What an honor to have the pictures bought by AP. I had the background knowledge to be in the right place at the right time.
I am excited to to bring the stories of short track racing to listeners all across the country. I hope to use my photos and experience in racing to bring the stories to you. Racing is more than just cars on the track, it is about the stories of the people in and around the cars each and every week.
